Adventure safari

July – October are the ideal months for this itinerary.

This safari was created for the months when the migration is in northern Serengeti. It combines a good blend of migration following and game driving with some strenuous hikes. These hikes are also not on the main stream tours, so you’ll get to experience a little slice of Tanzania that most people don’t even know exists!

Day 1: Arrive in Arusha. Rest, relax and sleep. Overnight in Arusha.

Day 2: Fly to northern Serengeti. Northern Serengeti is less populated than the central and eastern regions. Its beautiful landscapes consist of rolling hills, rocky out crops and big herds of mammals. The game viewing is good here. Overnight at luxury tented camps.

Days 3 & 4: You will be following the migration in northern Serengeti and will head just outside the park borders so you can have the option to do a walking safari and also a night game drive. Overnight at luxury tented camps.

Days 5: Today you will drive to Oldoinyo lengai. Oldoinyo lengai is an active volcanic mountain. This drive takes you through the wilderness and small villages. You’ll arrive at Oldoinyo lengai in the late afternoon, where you can relax at the camp and conserve your energy for the night climb. For those with energy or who don’t wish to do the night climb, you can drive to Lake Natron. Lake Natron is a breeding site for flamingoes and photo opportunities here are great.

The night climb starts around 11pm and continues throughout the night. You’ll reach the summit by 5:30 or 6am and be rewarded with stunning, breathtaking views of the plains below you at sunrise. As Oldoinyo lengai is an active volcano, you may see fresh lava at the top.

Day 6: This morning, after a hearty and well-deserved breakfast, you’ll drive to a Masai village located in Manyara National Park. The drive will take five hours. You’ll arrive in your lodge late afternoon. Today you can relax by the pool, where you can enjoy a swim or just take in the lovely scenery of the Rift Valley this afternoon. Overnight at a lodge in Rift Valley.

Day 7: You’ll start your day with an early morning drive in Manyara National Park. You’ll spend lunch in a local village, where you can sample the local fare. After lunch you’ll drive up the Rift Valley and arrive at your lodge – Rhotia Valley.

Day 8: A very early start to the day as you’ll head to Ngorongoro Crater for the day. You’ll come back in the evening to your lodge in Rift Valley. Overnight at Rhotia Valley.

Day 9: After breakfast, you’ll head back to Arusha and on to Kilimanjaro for your international flight home. End of your adventure.
